FAQs

Safety

We strongly recommend that all clients and their guests use the hearing protection provided at all times when on the shooting school. We also recommend the wearing of caps and eye glasses for protection from falling pieces of clay. Sturdy footwear, and warm and weatherproof clothing to suit the weather is also recommended. Any accidents or untoward incidents must be reported to  staff immediately. Hearing protection and safety glasses are available on loan when you meet your Instructor.

Can Non-Members shoot at Bisley?

Yes non-members are more than welcome although membership gives you discounted shooting, special offers and more.

Will shooting hurt my shoulder?

Our professional instructors will always make sure that we provide you with a gun suitable to your height and build. Most men shoot with a 12 bore, ladies a 20 bore and children a 28 bore or 410. The correct gun, along with low recoil cartridges, a shoulder pad if necessary and the correct gun mounting position will all ensure you enjoy your shoot.

Is there a minimum age to come shooting?

We normally recommend a minimum age of 12 years old; however we do have a lot of 10 and 11 year old children that come shooting with us if they are of a good build. Something you can try at home is to see if they can hold 1lb of sugar in their hand with their arm fully outstretched for one minute…if they can, they should be fine!

Do I need to have my own gun to come shooting?

No, providing you are booked in with an instructor we will always be able to provide you with a gun. We have different calibre guns based on your height, build and preference.

How many clays and cartridges will I shoot during a one hour lesson?

On average you will shoot approximately 100 clays and cartridges.

How far in advance do I need to book?

With our online booking system you can check all availability at your convenience.

What shall I wear to come shooting?

We normally say dress as if you are going out on a country walk. We are very relaxed at Bisley and are more than happy for our clients to wear jeans, chinos etc. You will be out in the woods walking around to the different stands so sturdy footwear is advisable. We recommend that all clients wear hearing, head and eye protection (please see SAFETY note above).

What if it is raining?

Being an outdoor sport we do shoot in all weathers. Therefore we will continue to shoot in rain and snow. The only time we will need to stop is for lightening and thunder.

Can I shoot if I am pregnant?

Please consult your doctor first.

Can I bring my dog shooting with me?

Yes, providing your dog remains on a lead at all times.

How do I get to the Long Siberia ground?

The postal address is 154 Queens Road, Bisley, Surrey GU24 9AT. Pull into the lay-by and then drive down the track called Long Siberia which is approximately 0.3 miles and on the left-hand side will be a car park and our office.

How do I apply for a shotgun license.

If you visit the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) website www.basc.org.uk you will find information on how to apply for a license with the police.
